Frequently asked questions
Does my health fund cover windscreen repair or replacement costs?
Health funds in Australia don't cover windscreen damage — that's handled by your comprehensive car insurance policy. If you have comprehensive cover, most insurers fully cover chip repairs with no excess, and full replacements are covered subject to your policy excess. We work directly with all major Australian insurers including AAMI, RACV, NRMA, Allianz, and Suncorp, so we can lodge the claim and handle the paperwork on your behalf.
Why can't I let windscreen chips stay as-is?
A small chip might look harmless, but stress from temperature changes, road vibration, and even direct sunlight can cause it to spread into a full crack — sometimes overnight. Once a crack reaches the edge of the glass, the windscreen loses structural integrity and must be replaced rather than repaired. A 5-minute resin repair is far cheaper and faster than a full replacement, and most comprehensive insurers cover chip repairs with no excess at all.
Why do windscreen technicians use a UV primer?
UV-activated primer is a thin black coating applied to the glass edge and the vehicle's pinch weld before the urethane adhesive goes on. It improves the bond between the glass and the body, blocks UV light from degrading the urethane over time, and contains an indicator that confirms the primer has properly cured before installation continues. This is part of why a quality windscreen replacement takes longer than a quick swap — the chemistry needs time to do its job safely.
